Workshops

1.   Folded Fabric Elegance - 2 Day Workshop

Rami introduces her new book, " Folded Fabric Elegance" and takes you to the enchanting world of 3-dimensional textures for your quilts, wearable arts, bags and home-decorating items. You will learn how to fold lotus blossoms, Ahsheea tulip, lightning bug, mirror-imaged continuously folded prairie points, hexagon chopkey, harlequin tucks, North American smocking by hand and machine and more, so that you can create all those new projects in the book after this workshop. Rami's book contains her award-winning, inspirational pieces for your imagination.

2.   3-Dimensional Textured 2-Day Workshop - Wearable Art Jacket

Rami loves to play with 3-D textures in her art-to-wear. In this workshop, you are going to create a jacket which is indubitably wearable and admired by spectators, using Rami's favorite 3-D texture techniques including hexagon chopkey (korean word for folding), circular tucks, straight tucks with wavy line, mirror-imaged continuously folded prairie points, lined-prairie points and harlequine tucks.
Choose your favorite color (Brown, Black, Burgundy, Hunter Green, Gold, Silver...) and bring many tone-on-tone fabrics for 3-D textures and some zinger fabrics to add exotic flavors. Let's have fun manipulating fabrics and adding fun textures.

3.   Weaving with Wrapped Strips and Fold & Stack Octagonal Star

In this workshop you will learn two new techniques than Rami used in her book, Quilted Elegance. She used these techniques to create a reversible jacket, a two-sided matching bag, a two-sided quilt wall hanging and pillow.  Showcase this multi-colored 3-D star block and intricately woven strips on your next project.
Rami learned this 3-D star block from her grandmother using paper when she was young.  Korean artisans use this block design for their bloster pillows.  Bring colorful contrasting fabrics.  You can start creating a bag at the workshop.

4.  Elegant Cathedral Window Jacket
This jacket is featured on the cover of Rami's book Quilted Elegance (AQS).  This cathedral window block originated from Korean wrapping cloth called Bojahgy.  Instead of using hand stitches that ancient Korean women used, we will use sewing machine to create an elegant jacket made with cathedral window blocks only.  Rami will teach you how to calculate a block size to fit your measurements-no pattern is needed.

5.   The fifth dimension

Go beyond traditional 3-D. In this technique workshop you will learn 5 of the exotic and unusual methods that are the trademark of Rami's award-winning works including hexagon and biscuit chopkey, mirror-imaged continuously folded prairie points, harlequin tucks, North American hand smoking and lined prairie points.

This workshop could be the answer to those who wish to know about adding 3-dimensional textures and a lot more extra touches to art-to-wear and quilts.

6.   Free motion machine embroidery workshop

You can draw whatever your heart desires and turn them into fabulous embroidery designs. Rami will teach you how to do free-motion machine embroidery on your projects as she did in her award-winning garments and quilts. You can free-motion embroider a beautiful oriental design on a silk evening bag using a kit Rami prepared (silk dupioni fabric, a bag handle, an oriental tassel and a bag pattern) in this workshop.

7.   Koi Pond with Lotus Blossoms

Recreate an Asian koi pond with colorful blossoms on the water. You'll learn Korean choppkey (folding) techniques to make 3-D flowers, bobbinwork and free-motion threadplay techniques to depic Koi fish and ripples in the water. Beading adds sparkle to this animated quilt wallhanging.

8.   Machine Trapunto applique workshop...'Kittie-Kittie' quilt wallhanging

You can make your quilt wallhanging 3-dimensionally beautiful using this fun trapunto applique technique all by machine. Embellished with beads, embroideries and yarns even more.

9.   Fabric Origami Wallhanging---original flowers for quilts

Depending on the fabrics you choose, you can create oriental or contemporary 3-dimensional quilts.  The designs are innovative quilt patterns inspired by Japanese sashiko and origami techniques.  We will make beautiful origami blocks using Kumiko Sudo's book 'Fabled Flowers' with Rami's easier, revised techniques.  Rami will also show how to assemble beautiful blocks to creast wonderful 3-D quilts or pillows.

10.   A vest with hexagon chopkey, lined prairie points & peyote beaded leaves

Rami will teach you all the techniques she used to create this elegant vest by her original pattern.

Hexagon chopkey(folding), interesting strip piecing, decorative stitches with variegated threads, lined prairie points and exquisite beaded leaves by peyote stitches and the construction method of the vest will be covered in this fun workshop.

11.   Interlaced Stars with Optical Illusion

Rami designed this quilt wallhanging of interlaced star blocks with optical illusion embellished with Swarovski hot-fix crystals. She used the technique called 'paperless paperpiecing' by Beverly Rogers to construct these intricate blocks.
